Big Freedia and Ben & Jerry’s collaborated on a signature ice cream flavor.
At the Republic New Orleans, one of Freedia’s favorite hot spots, she discussed how her partnership with Ben & Jerry’s started. “My team and I created our own flavor with a mock Ben & Jerry’s pint and posted it on my Instagram. We tagged Ben & Jerry’s, hope they would see it. They did and the rest is history,” Big Freedia said.
Her ice cream, Bouncing Beignets is vanilla ice cream base with a bourbon caramel swirl served with a fresh beignet. As appetizing as this ice cream flavor sounds, Bouncing Beignets was only available for guests at the partnership launch party.
According to Ben & Jerry’s, while guests enjoyed their ice cream, they also learned about three things: No Kid Hungry, a non-profit organization whose mission is to feed unserved children in New Orleans, “Chasing Rainbows”, a new song by Big Freedia and Ke$ha and how Big Freedia and Ben & Jerry’s are working together to create change in communities in need.
Ben & Jerry’s Social Equity Manager and Louisiana native, Simone Washington had this to say about the partnership. “The partnership is a very exciting fit. Big Freedia really focuses on inclusion and bring people together. Plus, she has a long history of giving back to her New Orleans community. Big Freedia shares a lot of the same values as we do – working with her was a no-brainer.”
Although the flavor is no longer available to customers, a Ben & Jerry’s spokesperson Lindsay Bumps told The Times-Picayune that the company hopes they can sell Bouncing Beignets sometime in the future.
